SPHE/PSHE Activities

Myself, Myself and Others. Myself and the Outside World. Explore the effects of apples on the body. Take a field trip to an orchard or farmers market. Have an "Apple Day". Do all sorts of apple activities such as: pin the worm on the apple, pass the apple... everyone wears red, green, or yellow or apple bobbing.

Language Activities

Competence and Confidence in using Language.

  • Developing Cognitive Abilities in using Language.
  • Talk about your favourite foods.
  • See how many words you can find to describe the taste of an apple.
  • Explain the difference between fruit and vegetables to a friend.
  • Find out the word for apple in different languages, (eg: in Irish "Úl" ; in Spanish "Manzana" ; in French "Pomme").

Physical Education

  • Athletics.
  • Outdoor Activities.
  • Adventure Activities.
  • Create a new ‘Health Hero’ game.
  • You could draw pictures of you and your friends being active
  • Have an apple and spoon race with your friends.
  • Arrange an apple scavenger hunt.
  • Go on a nature walk in an orchard and see how apples grow.

  • Find out which countries of the world grow the most apples.
  • Find out if there are any orchards in your area.

Visual Arts Activities

Drawing, Painting, Fabric and Fibre Clay, Construction

  • Make a collage painting or drawing of an apple.
  • Ask your teacher to cut an apple in half or quarter and dip the pieces into paint and stamp it onto paper to make interesting patterns.

Drama Activities

Exploring and making drama

  • Get a group of friends and pretend you are all Le Crunch Nature Heroes. Which one would you be? Make a play using all the characters.
  • Pretend that you are an apple seed growing into a tall apple tree.

  • Make a pie chart of how many people in your class prefer red or green apples, how many apples they eat a day, and when they eat them.
  • Using a piece of string find the circumference of an apple.
